The Challenge

College of Medicine, located in Orlando, FL was in the market for a collaborative enterprise project management tool for their IT department’s project management office. They wanted a solution that helped them schedule short and long term projects, manage resources, and provide performance metrics for the department. Mission critical information needed to be highly available 24-hours a day. Risks and issues needed to be tracked to monitor problems. Additionally, having documentation available in a central location was a requirement.

The Solution & Results

The solution of choice was Microsoft Project Server. Project server provides advanced tools for their project managers to collaborate, track and show how issues and risks are mitigated. Now with SharePoint as the underlying platform, documents have a central location for each project.

For business intelligence, College of Medicine utilized SQL server reporting services which tightly integrates with SharePoint. Custom reports were developed as part of the scope to help provide the metrics specific to their organization.

To provide the level of availability required by the department, the SharePoint farm was designed with load-balancing, duplicate servers, and SQL server in a failover configuration.
